Top 5 tips for brewing the perfect cup of tea

Here are our top 5 tips so you can make the perfect cup of tea!

1. Use fresh, high-quality tea leaves
The quality of tea leaves you use plays a crucial role in the taste of your tea. Opt for loose leaf tea rather than tea bags, as loose leaf is better quality. Make sure the leaves are fresh, and store them in an airtight container away from direct sunlight.

2. Water temperature matters

Different types of tea require different water temperatures to brew properly. For example, green tea should be brewed with water that is around 80°C, while black tea needs water that is around 100°C. A simple tip for tea that requires 80-90°C water is to put a splash of cold water in the cup before pouring the hot water in.

3. Steep for the right amount of time

Oversteeping or understeeping your tea can have a significant impact on the flavour. Follow the brewing instructions for the type of tea you are using, and set a timer to ensure you don't oversteep. Generally, green teas need to be steeped for 2-3 minutes, while black teas can be steeped for 3-5 minutes.

4. Use the right amount of tea

The amount of tea you use will also impact the flavor of your tea. Use a tablespoon of tea for every cup of water, or adjust based on your personal preference. Using too little tea will result in weak tea, while using too much can make it bitter.

5. Preheat your teapot or cup

Pouring boiling water into a cold teapot or cup can lower the temperature of the water and result in a weaker brew. Preheat your teapot or cup by pouring a small amount of boiling water into it, swirling it around, and then discarding it before adding your tea and fresh boiling water.
